HORIZON LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP
The UW-Green Bay men’s golf team could not rally during the final round of the 2009 Horizon League Championship Tuesday and finished third in the seven-team field in the 72-hole event at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky.
Heading into Tuesday’s final round, the Phoenix were tied for second with Cleveland State and were just three strokes back of second-round leader Detroit. But Cleveland State shot even par through the final 18 holes to emerge as the overall champion for the second straight year and third time in four seasons. Cleveland State’s Jake Scott was medalist. He finished at 4-under 212 (71-70-71).
Austin Ehlenfeldt kept up his consistent play, shooting 1-over 73 on Tuesday to move into a three-way tie for fourth to pace the Phoenix (73-74-73–220). Ehlenfeldt was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament team.
Adam Austreng and Brady Mork both finished in the top 10. Austreng shot rounds of 75-73-76 to finish at 8-over 224, while Mork moved up the leaderboard thanks to a 1-over 73 to finish 10th (76-76-73–225).
Also on the move was Garrett Gosh, who shot a team-best even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish in 13th place at 226 (75-79-72). Aaron Pearson rounded out Green Bay’s golfers with a 32nd-place finish (84-77-79–240).
