MONDAY ROUND-UP
UWEC women second in Iowa

The UW-Eau Claire women’s golf team on Saturday took second place out of nine teams at the Wartburg College Spring Invitational at Centennial Oaks GC in Waverly, Iowa. The event was reduced to one round because of the cold, snowy weather forecast.

The Blugolds finished at 38-over 326, just behind winner Gustavus Adolphus (321). St. Thomas was third at 329, while host Wartburg finished fourth at 335.

Junior Torie Ives led the Blugolds at 4-over 76. She took second, losing a playoff to St. Thomas’ Laura Heck. Freshman Katie Maurer followed closely, tying for third place at 6-over 78. Freshmen Lauren Gault and Jamie Hauser tied for 22nd place at 14-over 86. Freshman Emily Swift took 36th place (89).

The Blugolds will be back in action Friday and Saturday when they compete in the Carleton College Invitational in Northfield, Minn.

The Green Bay women’s golf team took 14th at the abbreviated Hotels at Grand Prairie Collegiate Classic hosted by Bradley at the WeaverRidge GC in Peoria, Ill. The tournament, which originally was scheduled for 54 holes, was shortened to 36 holes due to Monday’s forecast, which called for snow and high temperatures in the 30s.

The Phoenix finished with a two-round score of 711. Drake claimed the team title at 632, while Missouri State was second in the field at 636.

Freshman Eleanor Yorobe paced the Phoenix, tying for 49th. She shot rounds of 86-84 for a 26-over 170. Katie Tabbert tied for 59th (86-86–172), while Ellyn Hansen tied for 68th (85-92–177).

Other Phoenix competitors were Stephanie Fifield, who tied for 84th (93-99–192), Tracy Drott, who finished 86th (101-99–200) and Madaline Selig, who finished 87th (111-107–218).

Several Wisconsin natives were playing for out-of-state teams in the event. Brookfield Central's Lindsay Wandrey, who plays for Western Illinois University, tied for 12th at 17-over 161 (84-77). Her teammate at Western Illinois, Becky Allen (Stanley-Boyd), tied for 36th at 167 (83-84). Michelle Mathwick (Greenfield) and Elena Vikmir (Divine Savior Holy Angels) play for Drake University. Mathwick tied for 27th at 165 (82-83), and Vukmir tied for 49th at 170 (87-83). Kelsie Passolt of Hayward, a freshman on Northern Illinois University's team, tied for 27th at 165 (80-85).

Green Bay is in action April 12-13 at the Loyola Invitational in Wilmette, Ill. It is the final tune up for the Phoenix prior to the Horizon League Championships April 25-26 in Frankfort, Ky.
