WSGA HALL OF FAME
Tiziani, Schuman get the call

Two well-known Madison-area golf professionals are the newest members of the Wisconsin State Golf Association Hall of Fame. Larry Tiziani, head pro at Cherokee CC in Madison, and Jim Schuman, the University of Wisconsin men’s golf coach, will be inducted this summer, bringing the number of WSGA Hall of Famers to 79.

Schuman, 45, is a two-time Wisconsin State Open champion (1996, '99) who also won the PGA National Assistant Championship in back-to-back years (1996, '97). He was the Wisconsin PGA’s player of the year twice, and the WPGA assistant player of the year three times in the mid-1990s.

As an amateur, Schuman won the 1982 WSGA Match play title and played college golf at the University of Florida.

Schuman, who was named UW men’s golf coach in July 2003, is also the brother-in-law and swing coach for PGA Tour player Jerry Kelly, a 2007 WSGA Hall of Fame inductee.

Tiziani, 61, is also a well-respected teacher who won the Wisconsin State Open in 1978 and the State Senior Open in 1999. He won the Wisconsin PGA Championship in 1987 and 2004 and was the Wisconsin PGA senior player of the year five times. Tiziani joins his brother Dennis and Dennis’ son-in-law Steve Stricker in the WSGA Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremonies will be held later this year at places and times yet to be determined.
