Private Quarters provides the best of both worlds
By Rick Pledl

Many Midwestern folks like to spend their free time traveling to golf-rich resort properties where they spend their days on courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf. Others prefer to unwind on a vacation property in a woodsy Wisconsin locale that they can call their own.

Still others – including members of the Private Quarters destination club at Geneva National – seek out the best of both worlds. Private Quarters is a hassle-free path to vacation property ownership.

The private residence club – also known as a destination club – is a concept that has been around for a few years now. Essentially it is a fractional ownership arrangement under which several individuals purchase shares of a single vacation property. All the purchasers get to use the property on a limited basis for a fraction of the cost of full ownership.

At Geneva National, a one-seventeenth share of a Private Quarters property currently sells for $79,900, and it allows the purchaser to spend three weeks a year living at the property. Additional weeks may be purchased on an individual basis, based on availability.

The 20 Private Quarters properties at Geneva National are located near the 15th hole on the Trevino Course, in a gated area of the sprawling development and adjacent to an outdoor swimming pool just for Private Quarters residents.

The residences are 2,700 square feet, offer 1.5-car garages and have three bedrooms, each with its own bathroom featuring a Jacuzzi bathtub and a shower. They come fully furnished with gas fireplaces and Viking appliances in the kitchen and gas grills outside for the all-important patio grilling.

The floor plans and amenities are identical to those at the other Private Quarters facilities at Porto Cima in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., with three championship golf courses, and Amelia National on Amelia Island, Fla., where a terrific Tom Fazio-designed course awaits. That is appropriate since share-owners at any of the three locations can trade their time to stay at either of the other two facilities.

In addition to the fractional purchase price, Private Quarters owners pay a $4,200 annual maintenance fee that covers taxes, landscaping and lawn care, snow removal and golf club fees. Golfers pay only cart fees when they play any of Geneva National’s three courses, designed by Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino and Gary Player, respectively. The fee also covers concierge service, so owners may call ahead to have catered meals waiting for them when they arrive, for example, or simply to have the fridge stocked with their favorite beverages. When their time is up, owners simply lock the door and leave. No cleanup is required.

While Geneva National is an exceptional golf facility located in a golf-rich section of Wisconsin, it is surprising how many non-golfers have found a home there – second or otherwise. Player or not, there’s something appealing about gazing upon a beautifully manicured golf course you can call home. And, like Amelia Island and Lake of the Ozarks, there’s plenty more to do in the Lake Geneva area than just golf, including water sports galore.
