Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has agreed to serve as spokesman for the Wisconsin State Golf Association’s Membership Development Campaign.
Romo, a native of Burlington who resides in Dallas, is an avid and accomplished golfer. He maintains an official WSGA handicap through Browns Lake GC in Burlington (current handicap index is 1.8) and has competed in Wisconsin amateur tournaments in recent years.
Last June, Romo tied for 18th place at the Ray Fischer Amateur Championship in Janesville with scores of 69-69-77-72–287. His dad Ramiro Romo also has a WSGA handicap and shot 74-73-75-74–296 to tie for 48th place in the same tournament.
Tony Romo was recently recognized by Golf Digest magazine as the best player on a list of 150 top athletes who play golf in addition to the sports that made them famous.
As spokesman, Tony Romo will appear in advertisements aimed at boosting WSGA membership with the phrase, “I’m a WSGA member. Are you?”
“Tony will be a great spokesperson for the WSGA,” said Tom Schmidt, WSGA executive director. “He is passionate about the game of golf and has expressed his desire to give back to something that has been and continues to be a big part of his life.”
