FEATURED COURSE
Rock River Hills GC in Horicon

The name really says it all at Rock River Hills GC in Horicon, a golf course built into a hillside high above a bend on the Rock River. The river actually wraps around a portion of the golf course property and gives it teeth in the form of wetlands, which border landing areas and create occasional forced carries.

The first and 10th tees, clubhouse and range occupy the high ground at Rock River Hills, providing pretty vistas of the river below. In particular, the view to the south from the elevated 10th tee should not be missed. Much of the front nine plays through mature trees, creating some tight fairways.

Rock River Hills offers a few tough par-3 challenges, including the sixth hole – 200 yards from the back tee over a thick cattail marsh – and No. 13, which at 176 yards from an elevated tee isn’t exceptionally long but features a green bounded by water. Whatever wind is blowing will also make its presence felt on No. 13, and any player going left or long will probably have to tee up another ball.

Three fun holes are situated on the other side of Main Street from the rest of the golf course. Nos. 15-17 play through a flatter, triangular piece of property featuring a couple well-placed ponds before the uphill, par-5 18th sends players back toward the clubhouse.

Par-70 Rock River Hills measures 6,310 yards from the back tees.
