North and friends raise nearly $300,000

Andy North, Tom Watson and Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers raised $293,000 during a weekend-long golf event June 6-8 at Kalahari Resort and Trappers Turn GC in Wisconsin Dells to benefit the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center in Madison.

“We are excited to make this an annual event and are extremely proud that we were so successful in the event’s first year,” said North, a Madison resident, two-time U.S. Open Champion and golf commentator for ABC and ESPN. “Not only has the event been a memorable experience for all involved, it will have a lasting impact on cancer research.”

The UWCCC, the only comprehensive cancer center in Wisconsin designated by the National Cancer Institute, unites more than 280 physicians and scientists who work together in translating discoveries from research laboratories into new treatments that benefit cancer patients.

As part of the Andy North & Friends event to benefit the UWCCC, 100 golfers enjoyed an exclusive weekend getaway package that included two rounds of golf at Trappers Turn GC, a dinner party with North, Watson and Rodgers, a golf clinic given by North and Watson and $500 in golf apparel and equipment presented by Titleist. Golfers also received a two-night stay at Kalahari Resort. On Sunday evening, 500 guests enjoyed a dinner prepared by Kalahari Resort chefs, a live and silent auction, a presentation by North and Watson and a musical tribute to Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra by the Dry Martinis.
