MONDAY ROUNDUP
Kelly takes second at Memorial ... Kim wins Futures event ... Woltman misses cut ... U.S. brings home Curtis Cup

Jerry Kelly was one of several players with a chance to chase down Kenny Perry at the Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, over the weekend, but   Perry persevered to win the tournament for the third time in his career. The only other player to win the Memorial three times is Tiger Woods.

Kelly, a resident of Madison, finished in a four-player tie at 6 under par, two strokes behind Perry. Kelly shot 66-72-73-71 and won $396,000. The others at 282 were Justin Rose, Matthew Goggin and Mike Wier.

Perry shot rounds of 66-71-74-69–280 and won $1,080,000. The victory also moved Perry into fifth place on the U.S. Ryder Cup points list.

Mindy Kim has gone wire-to-wire back-to-back while dominating the Duramed Futures Tour during the last few weeks. Kim, a resident of Diamond Bar, Calif., completed her second consecutive title on the top developmental tour for women with a three-stroke victory at Geneva National GC on Sunday.

Kim led at the completion of all three rounds on her way to winning the Aurora Health Care Championship, contested on the Palmer Course at Geneva National, shooting rounds of 68-72-73–213. Kim did the same two weeks earlier at the Futures Tour’s last stop, the Mercedes-Benz of Kansas City Championship, where she led after all three rounds and won by four strokes.

The $14,000 Kim won over the weekend pushed her into the top position on the tour’s money list with $32,172.

Kim was the only player to finish the tournament in red numbers. Tied for second at even-par 216 were Kristen Samp of Moberly, Mo., (76-71-69); Leah Wigger of Louisville, Ky., (72-75-69); Sarah-Jane Kenyon of Queensland, Australia (69-73-74); and Briana Vega of Andover, Mass., (71-71-74). Those four players each won $6,580.

The only Wisconsin player to make the cut was amateur Molly Schemm of Fort Atkinson. Schemm began the final round just nine shots off the lead after starting the tournament with rounds of 74-75, but she struggled to an 84 on Sunday.

Fellow amateur Kelsey Verbeten of Green Bay missed the 36-hole cut after opening with rounds of 75-84–159.

On the college level, University of Wisconsin player Dan Woltman missed the 54-hole cut at the NCAA Division I golf championships in West Lafayette, Ind. Woltman shot 82-71-77–230 through three rounds and finished in a tie for 63rd place.

Meanwhile, in St. Andrews, Scotland, the U.S. side won the Curtis Cup 13-7 over Great Britain & Ireland. The United States now holds a 26-6-3 record in the biennial matches between teams of amateur women. The U.S. has won the last six competitions going all the way back to 1996 when Great Britain & Ireland last took home the cup.
