Martin takes over as UW-Stevens Point women’s coach

Former University of Wisconsin player Melissa Martin recently exchanged Badger red for Pointer purple. Martin, a two-time letter winner while playing for the Badgers, has been named the new women’s golf coach at UW-Stevens Point.

“I want to continue improving the strong program that has already been established, and to make that happen we’ll continue to recruit quality student-athletes,” Martin said in a statement released by the Pointers athletic department. “This is a great opportunity for me to stay involved in golf, and I’m looking forward to making this a first-class program with the help of some great mentors.”

“We are thrilled to have Melissa join our staff,” said UWSP athletic director Frank O’Brien. Her experience in the world of golf and her passion for the sport make her an excellent choice for our program. We are excited about the future of our team under her direction.”

Martin is a graduate of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School, where she won the 2000 WIAA individual state title as a junior while also leading the school to its only state championship in girls golf.
