PGA TOUR Dec. 3, 2007
After a grueling 108 holes of golf in six days, David Roesch
and Skip Kendall failed to finish in the top-25 in the final stage of the PGA
Tour’s qualifying tournament, thus dashing their hopes of earning 2008 PGA Tour
cards.
Kendall, a native of Fox Point, tied for 47th with
rounds of 72-67-68-70-72-73 for a 10-under 422; the top-25 and ties in Q-School
earn Tour cards. Kendall started out strong on the Nationwide Tour in 2007 and
looked like he would earn a PGA Tour card by finishing in the top-25 on the tour’s
money list, but he was ousted in the last tournament of the season and ended up
26th. But since he finished in the top-40, he was granted exemption into the
final round of Q-School.
Roesch, a Germantown resident who played on the Nationwide
Tour in past years but not in 2007, shot rounds of 73-67-72-72-72-77 for a 1-over
433 at Orange County National Golf Center and Lodge (the Crooked Cat course) in
Winter Garden, Fla. He tied for 133rd with a number of other
players.
Kendall and Roesch were the only local players to compete in
the final stage of Q-School. Any player who makes it to the final stage is
given some kind of status on the Nationwide Tour, but that status isn’t
specified.
Leading the way at Q-School was Frank Lickliter II, who
finished at 29-under 403.
