After two rounds of the Wisconsin State Open, Ryan Helminen of Appleton has taken a two-shot lead. Helminen, the assistant professional at SentryWorld GC in Stevens Point, carded a 5-under-par, bogey-free 66 Tuesday to finish the first 36 holes at 5-under 137.
Eddie Terasa, the first round leader, is two shots back after a second round 73. He opened with three straight bogeys but rallied on the back nine. Terasa, the head pro at North Hills CC in Menomonee Falls, is tied for second at 139 with amateur Nick Krattiger of Monroe (71-68).
University of Wisconsin graduate Garrett Jones is alone in fourth place at 140 (71-69). Rounding out the top-five is Charlie Delsman of Colgate, who is at 1-under 141.
Round three began this morning at 7:30, and the final round starts this afternoon. A champion should be declared this evening.
