MONDAY ROUND-UP
For the second season in a row, the UW-Stevens Point women’s golf team is the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion.
The Pointers overcame a 12-shot deficit to capture their third conference title in school history and secure a bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III Championship. The conference championship, held at Northern Bay Golf Resort & Marina, was scheduled for 54 holes but was shortened to 45 because of inclement weather during the final round Sunday. The Pointers (341-320-161–822) beat UW-Eau Claire (329-322-174–825) by three shots.
Freshman Nacheynah Green led the Pointers and tied for second place at 202 (85-77-40). Junior Jessica Urban was alone in fourth at 203 (85-80-38), Michelle Pascavis finished in sixth place at 207 (83-82-42) and Danielle Olson finished in ninth at 210 (88-81-41).
Despite having two players in the top-two, UWEC finished in second place. Katie Maurer was medalist and finished at 14-over 194 (77-77-40), and Torie Ives (81-78-43) tied with Green for second. Maurer’s victory marks the sixth straight time a Blugold has finished first in the WIAC championship.
