AJGA: Ferrell loses in playoff, as state players litter leaderboard

Allyssa Ferrell made a spirited run at the McArthur Towel & Sports Future Legends last week. Ferrell, a resident of Edgerton, eventually lost the overall girls competition in the American Junior Golf Association event on the second hole of a sudden death playoff to Kris Yoo of Schaumburg, Ill.

The tournament, open to boys and girls players ages 12 to 18, was held July 14-17 at the Legend at Bergamont in Oregon.

Ferrell, the reigning state junior girls player of the year, and Yoo shot identical scores in the tournament (77-76-73–226) to finish two strokes ahead of two other Wisconsin juniors, Lindsay Danielson of Osceola (82-73-73–228) and Alyssa Elliott of Madison (78-74-76–228).

In the boys competition, Jason Roets of Eikenhof, South Africa, shot steady rounds of 71-71-73–215 to win by one stroke over Steven Sorenson of Hartland (72-71-73–216) and David Mills of Evansville, Ind. (73-70-73–216).

Numerous Wisconsin players competed in the tournament. Among girls, Jaclyn Shepherd of Delafield shot 80-76-75–231, Casey Danielson of Osceola shot 80-81-74–235 and Lisbeth Brooks of Waunakee shot 81-81-80–242.

Missing the 36-hole cut were Jennifer Konop of Green Bay (82-86–168), April Ohlendorf of Wales (84-85–169), Erika Pfaender of Pewaukee (90-79–169), Kelly Coakley of Brookfield (87-86–173), Sierrah Gurske of Wauwatosa (88-86–174), Meghan Martine of Madison (89-86–175), Monica Enderlin of Middleton (95-87–182), Casey Marschall of Marshfield (87-96–183), Alexandra Fulks of Brookfield (95-91–186) and Michelle Madden of Waunakee (97-94–191).
