UW MEN’S GOLF
Elsen ties for third

Jordan Elsen had the best finish of his career Tuesday at the St. Mary’s Invitational at Poppy Hills GC in Pebble Beach, Calif.

The UW junior tied for third and helped the Badgers to a second-place finish. Elsen’s 2-under 211 (72-69-70) was a personal best, and he finished four shots back from winner Domingo Jojola, who plays for the University of San Francisco. Elsen’s finish was five shots better than his previous personal best.

The Badgers closed Tuesday with a 1-under 283 and worked their way to the second-place finish, the team’s best since last fall’s VCU Shootout. UW ended up at 8-over 860 (296-281-283). Jojola’s USF Dons finished at 3-over 855 (293-279-283) and took home the team trophy.

UW Senior Tyler Obermueller earned his best finish of the season, tying for ninth. He ended up at 1-over 214 (74-68-72). Fellow senior Dan Woltman finished one shot back from Obermueller at 215 (73-73-69) and tied for 11th.

Senior Danny Zimmerman finished in a tie for 42nd at 8-over 221 (73-73-69), and sophomore Craig Cerbins, who was competing in the first tournament of his collegiate career, tied for 76th at 18-over 231 (79-80-72).

The Badgers head to Tennessee Oct. 6-7 for the Memphis Intercollegiate.
