Elliott returns to Badgers as coach

University of Wisconsin women’s golf coach Todd Oehrlein has announced a reshuffling of the program’s coaching staff. Coming in is former UW player Katie Elliott. Going out is longtime UW assistant coach Lori Murphy, who has accepted an administrative position in the athletic department.

Elliott graduated in 2008 and had a solid four-year career on the golf team under Oehrlein. She was a second-team all-Big Ten selection in 2007, and she led the Badgers in scoring her final three years at the UW. Elliott’s career scoring average of 77.13 in 124 rounds ranks second in the history of the program. Elliott also won two tournaments as a Badger and had 11 top-10 finishes.

“Obviously we are very excited to see Katie come back,” Oehrlein said. “She brought so much to the program the first time as a player, and will again as a coach. She works hard and is so passionate about Badger athletics. Her familiarity with the Big Ten as a player will also be a great asset for our team. We are fortunate to have her here.”

Elliott’s sister Alyssa Elliott is currently a freshman on the Badger women’s golf team. Both of them are Madison natives who attended Edgewood High School.

Murphy, who competed on the LPGA Tour for a few seasons before turning to coaching, had served as an assistant coach at Wisconsin since 1993. She assisted with both the men’s and women’s programs until 2003 under former head coach Dennis Tiziani, but she has focused exclusively on the women’s program since Coach Oehrlein was hired.
