Bucky stumbles

Bucky had a rough time of it this week on a trip to the West Coast for the Big Ten/PAC-10 Challenge, coming in last among the eight participating teams. The event, featuring four teams from each conference, was held at Chambers Bay GC in University Place, Wash.

UCLA won the team competition with a 54-hole score of 879, a 15 over par total. Michigan State finished second, six strokes back. Wisconsin shot a 58-over-par 922. Particularly painful for the Badgers was a score of 316 in the first round.

In the individual competition, Michigan State’s Ryan Brehm earned medalist honors in impressive fashion, finishing five strokes up on Kevin Chapel of UCLA. Brehm shot a 5-under-par 210 (68-75-67). Chapel was the only other player in the field in red numbers with scores of 72-67-76–215. Tied for third at even par (216) were UCLA players Erik Flores and Craig Leslie.

The Badgers were led by Danny Zimmerman, who tied for 16th place at 9 over par (78-71-76). Dan Woltman tied for 36th place (79-77-74–230) for Wisconsin, and Jordan Elsen was one stoke back in a tie for 39th (79-72-80–231). Meanwhile, Nick Engen participated as an individual and tied for 45th place (78-79-77–234).

Also competing for Wisconsin were Tyler Obermueller, who tied for 45th place (80-77-79–236), and Jeff Kaiser, who tied for 51st (80-79-82–241).

The Big Ten/PAC-10 challenge signals the end of the fall portion of Wisconsin’s 2007-08 season.
