Bristlecone Pines purchase agreement signed

Bristlecone Pines GC in Hartland is poised to join the Legend network of golf clubs.

The Legend, which owns and operates the Legend at Brandybrook in Wales and the Legend at Bergamont in Oregon, has signed a purchase agreement for Bristlecone Pines. The transaction is expected to become official within the next 30 days or so, but the current Bristlecone Pines membership must first agree to rescind a plan to match The Legend’s purchase offer.

According to a press release, the expectation is that the club would be renamed the Legend at Bristlecone and operated singularly along with the Legend at Brandybrook. Thus, members would have access to 36 holes of golf, two clubhouses as well as pool and tennis facilities and social programming at both locations. The two clubs are about 10 miles apart in western Waukesha County.

“The dual-club concept allows us to do so much more for our members, while keeping their dues to a minimum,” said Jack Gaudion, The Legend’s managing partner. “The acquisition of The Legend at Bristlecone has further strengthened our reputation as well as our position in the marketplace. No other club can rival The Legend’s dual club facilities.”

The Legend at Brandybrook opened in 2003 with a familty-oriented business model – complete with an elaborate pool and waterpark – which attracted a young, active membership. In 2007, Bergamont GC, an Andy North-designed course in a residential development near Madison, was purchased and renamed the Legend at Bergamont. Now, the Legend at Bristlecone may soon become a reality.

“We remain bullish on the private club business model in the right location” Gaudion said. “Waukesha County has long term growth potential for families looking to invest in a club lifestyle and we absolutely love the surrounding demographics and convenience of the Brandybrook and Bristlecone locations.”

Bristlecone Pines, which opened in 1996, has hosted several high-level tournaments, including the 2007 Wisconsin State Amateur Championship, and it is also slated to host the 2010 Wisconsin State Open. The par-71 course was designed by Scott Miller.

According to the plan, the Legend at Bristlecone would remain open for public play on a limited basis before going fully private at some point in the future, depending how a recently undertaken membership campaign plays out.
