Mark Bemowski and John Pallin, two of the four Wisconsin players in the field at the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship in Fort Worth, Texas, advanced to match play over the weekend.
The 36-hole qualifying event was held on Saturday and Sunday at Shady Oaks CC in Fort Worth. Bemowski of Mukwonago shot 73-75–148 to tie for 19th place. Pallin of Kenosha shot 75-75–150 and tied for 32nd. The top 64 players in qualifying advanced to the match play bracket.
The medalist was Paul Simson of Raleigh, N.C., who shot 71-70–141.
Two other state players missed the cut. Stu Grendahl of McFarland shot 77-78–155, and Tom Major of Brookfield shot 91-83–174.
Matches will be held through Thursday morning, when the championship match will be held.
Bemowski won the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship in 2004, and advanced to the title match the following year. Grendahl lost in the semifinals last year.
