UW WOMEN’S GOLF
The University of Wisconsin women’s golf team finished the fall portion of the 2008-09 season with a seventh-place finish at the Edwin Watts-Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C.
The Badgers shot rounds of 303-317-314 and finished at 934 in the 19-team tournament, 27 strokes behind winner Georgia State.
Jessie Gerry led the Badgers by finishing in a tie for 20th. The freshman from Madison was the only Badger to shoot rounds below 80 in the first two rounds (77-75). She closed with an 80 and finished 16-over 232, eight strokes behind co-medalists Marlowe Boukis and Susannah Aboff of Princeton.
Sophomore Carly Werwie had her best tournament of the season, finishing in a tie for 23rd at 233 (75-82-76). Junior Kelsey Verbeten was three strokes behind Werwie and tied for 36th (75-80-81–236). Senior Isabel Alvarez (78-80-79) and freshman Ellie Arkin (76-82-79) tied for 37th at 237.
The women’s golf team returns to action Feb. 1, 2009 when it heads to Peoria, Ariz., for the Westbrook Cup.
