2010 PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
Barry Deach, championship director of the 2004 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, has again been named championship director of the event when it comes back to Whistling Straits next summer.
Deach, who called Whistling Straits home from October 2002 through October 2004, fills a vacancy left by outgoing championship director Ryan Jordan, who left to pursue a job with Churchill Downs in Lousiville, Ky.
“We are thrilled that Barry has rejoined us for the 2010 PGA Championship,” said Scott Anderson, general chairperson of the championship and president of Kohler Co.’s Hospitality and Real Estate Group. “His keen knowledge of the inter-workings of this championship, as well as (of) Kohler Co. makes him the perfect fit to lead us down the home stretch.”
As in 2004, Deach will oversee the day-to-day efforts and preparation over the next 13 months, as well as oversee 2010 PGA Championship week activities.
“Obviously, planning for this championship is well underway, and it’s great to see some of the new initiatives in place for the 2010 PGA Championship,” said Deach. “My goal is to mnake the 2010 PGA Championship the best spectator experience in championship golf. It is a tremendous honor and privilege to return to Whistling Straits, a venue the state of Wisconsin truly supports and appreciates. Making the 2010 PGA Championship an unforgettable experience is the No. 1 goal for the PGA of America and Kohler Co.”
