Concordia captures second-consecutive NACC title

Falcons win for fourth time in five years

The Concordia University women’s golf team claimed its second-consecutive Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference title on Monday at Trappers Turn GC in Wisconsin Dells.

The Falcons shot rounds of 187-363-376 to finish with a 926, an impressive 18 strokes over second-place University of Northwestern-St. Paul (188-369-387–944). Aurora University placed third by posting a 212-378-392–982.

Individually, Concordia sophomore Nina Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) won medalist honors by carding a 25-over-par 205 (42-80-83). With the win, Puch was named NACC Player of the Year.

Lakeland College’s Finni Simko (freshman, Hartford) posted a 45-85-90 to take second, while there was a three-way tie for third. Wisconsin Lutheran’s Jordan Fenney (freshman, Erin), Minnesota Morris’ Abby Fragodt (senior, Benson, Minn.) and Condordia’s Lexi Westphal (sophomore, Brownsville) each finished with a score of 221.

As the top rookie finisher, Simko earned the NACC Freshman of the Year award.

For the Falcons, it was their fourth NACC title in the past five seasons.

With the win, the team earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championship that will be conducted May 13-16, 2014 at Mission Inn Resort & GC in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
