Kohler offers cabin in the woods
Sandhill Cabin offers American Club amenities

Kohler Co. is offering a new lodging option for guests seeking something different than the AAA Five-Diamond American Club in downtown Kohler.
Sandhill Cabin, which is located on a wooded 350 acres northeast of Kohler, is being offered to the public for the first time in February. The structure is located between Kohler’s two golf facilities, Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straits.
But calling Sandhill a cabin in the woods hardly does this place justice. It sleeps six and offers complete kitchen and dining facilities, washer and drier, walk-in showers, fire pit and charcoal grill. Out back, there’s a stand-alone poker room with a sauna, full shower and wood-burning stove. There’s a pond and hiking trails on site, and the cabin comes outfitted with kayaks, snowshoes, cross-country skis and all-terrain bicycles.
And because it’s located on land managed by Kohler’s River Wildlife preserve, guests can bird hunt on the property.
“When you get there, you really feel like you’re in the middle of no where,” said Christine Loose, spokeswoman for Destination Kohler. “There are pine trees everywhere. You’re really not that far from civilization but you truly feel as if you are nestled in the middle of the northern woods.”
Guests staying at Sandhill Cabin – which gets its name from sandhill cranes who visit the property in summer – have access to all the usual amenities of the American Club. Pricing starts at $785 for a three-night minimum stay for one to four people.
With its proximity to the Kohler courses, the cabin seems like a natural for golf buddy trips, as well as family vacations.
“And you don’t have to go too far to do it.” Loose said.
Meantime, Kohler also has plans to create a luxury, tented camping area south of Sheboygan. If everything goes according to plan and Kohler receives all necessary permits, work on the camp would begin this spring and the site would likely open in spring 2013 along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
The camp would feature luxury tents – some individual and others connected – that, like Sandhill Cabin, will be constructed of the finest fixtures and furnishings Kohler has to offer.
Amenities would include hiking trails, access to the lake and beach, a fitness facility and a full bar.
