Construction begins this month on the $2.8 million 11,600-square foot indoor golf training center for the UW-Madison men’s and women’s golf teams.

This new facility, combined with Wisconsin's home course, the nationally recognized 18-hole, 33-acre University Ridge GC, will provide the men's and women's golf programs with some of the best facilities in the nation.

Scheduled to open in October of 2012, the facility will provide Badger golfers the opportunity to work on their full swing, sand shots, chipping and putting throughout the year, making Wisconsin a more desirable choice for recruits from all over the country.

Features of the new indoor facility include:

First level:
•  Team room and UW Golf legacy archives and display
•  Locker rooms, team meeting and study area
•  Coaches’ offices

Lower level:
•  Multiple heated hitting bays for year-round training
•  State-of-the-art video capability for swing analysis
•  Sand trap hitting bay
•  3,000-square-foot chipping and putting area.

In an article written by Asher Wildman that appeared in Golfweek, men’s coach Michael Burcin was quoted as saying, “"This will be a great addition for our program. About half of our league has these type of facilities, and as a coach when you have one of these you don't need much else."
