Marquette University golf coach Steve Bailey announced the signing of three new recruits today.
Zach Gaugert of Waunakee, Nick Nelson of Decorah, Iowa, and Patrick Sanchez of Mazatlan, Mexico, have signed with the Golden Eagles and will form the program’s 2012-13 class.
"Nick, Patrick, and Zach bring a wealth of national and international tournament experience," Bailey said. "But more importantly they are first class people who come from great families."
Gaugert played golf and football at Waunakee, leading his school to three state football titles. He also tied for 17th place in Division 1 at the WIAA Boys State Golf Championships last June.
Nelson, who also was an all-conference basketball player in high school, has been a regular competitor in American Junior Golf Association events. Last season he had a pair of top-10 finishes in AJGA tournaments.
Meanwhile, Sanchez has already played in Canadian Tour and Nationwide Tour tournaments and won a qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
"He brings a tremendous amount of experience and success to the program," Bailey said of Sanchez. "Patrick's demeanor and maturity is pro-like and that, coupled with his commitment to getting better, makes him a perfect fit for what we are looking to build at Marquette."
