Just as tickets for Wisconsin’s next date with a major golf championship went on sale to the general public, Kohler Co. and the PGA of America issued a warning to prospective corporate ticket-buyers.
Ticket packages for the 92nd PGA Championship – scheduled for Whistling Straits in Sheboygan from Aug. 12-15, 2010 – may be purchased through the official championship Web site at www.pga2010.com or by phone at (800) PGA-GOLF. Customer orders will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Ticket packages are offered in several price ranges, from $30 for a one-day Monday practice round ticket to $450 for a week-long, premium Wanamaker Club ticket.
But ticket purchasers should be wary of potential “pirate” or “leech” marketing campaigns, as they are often called, offered by unauthorized sellers on the corporate level. A growing problem at major sporting events, “pirate” marketing involves companies not involved with the governing body or host site offering corporate hospitality packages for an event.
“It is important for people to realize that only the PGA of America and Kohler Co. are authorized to sell tickets and corporate hospitality packages for the 2010 PGA Championship,” said Ryan Jordan, tournament director for the championship. “These types of outside companies usually provide false and misleading information to sell off-site packages to unsuspecting area businesses.”
Anyone interested in purchasing ticket packages for the 92nd PGA Championship is advised to ask if the salesperson is an employee of the PGA of America or Kohler Co. Also ask if the hospitality location is on-site at Whistling Straits. If the answer to either question is no, then the sales offer is unauthorized.
For complete information regarding the 2010 PGA Championship, visit www.pga2010.com. To discuss hospitality packages or volunteer opportunities, call the tournament office at (920) 565-4300.
The PGA Championship last visited The Straits in August 2004, when Vijay Singh won the Wanamaker Trophy for the second time in a playoff over Justin Leonard and Chris DiMarco. All three shot 8-under-par 280 for the week. Singh also won the PGA Championship in 1998, as well as the 2000 Masters.
Also on the schedule for Whistling Straits are the 2015 PGA Championship and the 2020 Ryder Cup matches.
